TRAINING IN MODERN BEEKEEPING, ENVIRONMENT AND BIO-ECONOMY - 2020-...

Description

The Cap-Haitien region was a large honey production area. This potential has deteriorated in the face of the lack of organization of the beekeeping sector. To interest a greater number of players in the development of the sector, the project consists of training young beekeepers for 80 hours in the environment, beekeeping production and green economy, providing them with beehives and supporting them in setting up position and development of their beekeeping operation while helping them to develop green economy activities.

The objectives are to:

- Train 40 young beekeepers including 10 young women and men subsidized by FMD, in environment, beekeeping and bio-economy to regroup the rural environment.

- Develop their capacities in setting up activities for environmental protection, diversification of beekeeping production and processing of local products.

- Provide each young person trained with 5 beehives and basic beekeeping equipment and provide them with permanent support that will allow them to develop their business and integrate into the community of beekeepers through to the market.

Results

The young people are connected from the place of training to the networks of beekeepers existing in their region, to involve them in the activities of organization and structuring of the beekeeping sector in their region. In addition, periodic activities are organized to maintain permanent relationships with young beekeepers, also each class of beekeepers will be linked to larger groups at the zonal, regional or departmental level. Long-term support for young beekeepers and their integration into local beekeeping structures will allow them to create their own beekeeping business and participate in the development of their communities.

- 10 young women and men trained in environmental protection, beekeeping production and green economy for 80 hours;

- 10 young women and men from 5 hives each to start their beekeeping operation as well as a kit comprising: protective clothing with hat, smoker, frame lifter, bee brush and frame scraper;

- Permanent supervision provided through the local beekeeping association and the permanent training of 5 young beekeepers ensured so that they gradually develop their beekeeping business;

- Honey seedlings made available to them on a permanent basis to enable them to participate in reforestation activities in their area and to improve their beekeeping operations.
